Learn More About Hebron and the Civil War

Here's your chance to travel back in time to America's Civil War and learn about the role of Hebron in the war!

The Hebron Historical Society is pleased to announce that Michael A. McBride, who specializes as a Civil War living historian and re-enactor, will be the speaker at the Society's April 27th meeting. McBride has done video and motion picture work, and appeared in the 1992 movie Gettysburg, playing the role of a Union infantry officer.

McBrideMcBride's program is geared for all age groups, and the public is encouraged to attend. Find out about the home front in Hebron, agriculture and industry, politics, local views on slavery, the common soldier, the post-war period, veteran's groups, and Civil War monuments. McBride has researched local Hebron records and personal accounts, and presents that information in this program. Authentic reproduction uniforms, arms, and equipment along with artifacts are used to educate and entertain the audience. Please note that this program is tailored exclusively for Hebron.

McBride, a resident of Wallingford, Connecticut, holds a B.A. in History from Central Connecticut State University, as well as an M.A. in History from Northeastern University in Boston. He is certified to teach U.S. History at the middle school levels. McBride is currently a museum curator.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own Civil War artifacts to share with the group and for McBride's analysis and commentary.

Hebron and the Civil War will be presented on Thursday, April 27, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Hebron's Old Town Hall. The building is conveniently located just east of the intersections of Route 85 and 66 in Hebron; plenty of parking is available in the Douglas Library parking lot.

Light refreshments will be served. Donations are gratefully accepted, and are used to provide programs of interest to the public. If you have questions, or need directions, please contact Program Chairperson, Anne Marie Piggott, at 648-8386 during the day or 228-3746 in the evening. April 12, 2006
